Trips out with your Care Assistant can do wonders for your health and well-being
As the weather warms up and the days grow longer, there's no better time for Nest to assist you to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air. After a long winter spent indoors, the arrival of spring provides the perfect opportunity for them to embrace nature and reap the benefits of spending time outside.
Physical Health Benefits
Getting outdoors, even for a short walk in the garden, can improve physical health. Gentle exercise helps maintain mobility, strengthens muscles, and enhances balance, reducing the risk of falls. Sunlight exposure also boosts vitamin D levels, which is essential for bone health and immune support.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Spending time outside can do wonders for mental health, too. Nature has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, while socialising with others can help combat loneliness. Simply being around greenery or hearing birdsong can uplift spirits and bring a sense of calm.
Social Connection
Spring outings provide an excellent opportunity for elderly individuals to connect with friends, neighbors, or caregivers. Whether it's a stroll in the park, visiting a local café, or joining a community activity, social interaction is key to emotional wellbeing and keeping the mind sharp.
Tips for Safe Outdoor Activities
Whatever your stage of mobility, at Nest we would conduct a Risk Assement so it's safe for a Care Assistant to accompnay you outside.
Our advice would include encourage the use of comfortable shoes and mobility aids. We would make sure that your Care Assistant takes cold drinks out, and even plan to stop at a local cafe for a cup of tea!
